What A Fucking Evening
WHAT A FUCKING EVENING
By: AWC
Jacob was never as nervous as today. He had done it many a times but then for no good reason, he got married and now well over two long decades, he was back in the game. He was at one of the piers of the Liberty Marina. His eyes were looking all over. He was very clear when he said that it was the end of September, meaning it got darker a bit earlier than a month or so ago and he insisted to be on time by fixing the time of between 7:00 and 7:15 PM sharply and now Robbie was late by over 20 minutes. All those emails had not worked. Maybe Robbie also got nervous like him and decided not to show up. After all, he himself was having cold feet. He was married although not happily ever after but he was not supposed to take such a big risk. He had not insisted on the picture and now he did not even know, what she looked like. He did not know the name but he had told her about the coffee shop and its tall stair case, where he said to meet. He was feeling like being on a blind date, set by one of his friends with a girl. He was definitely in his mid-40 or even touching 50 and it was very nervous time for him.
He looked at his watch for the 100th time and then looked all around as well. It was not at all nippy but the wind near water was feeling cold. It was also getting cloudier. There was another man at the far corner of the stairs near the door of the coffee shop, well dressed for the weather. Suddenly Jack felt cold and wished he was also wearing his ex-Marine jacket or some other warm outfit instead of a v neck with open collar showing his very manly and thick chest hair. He should have not agreed that Robbie would decide, where and when to meet. Now he thought, he did not even ask for her full name. Was it Rebecca, Robins? He only knew her as Robbie. He knew, she was younger than him, as a matter of fact, much younger. Maybe this was the reason, she did not show up, he was not a teen ager anymore and she…, he did not know her age either, to be exact.
The man on the other end hesitated but then slowly walked to him. “Hello, you must be Jacob”. He said, offering his hand and Jacob shook his hand. It looked much smaller than a man’s hand and it was very soft as well. Being doubtful, he released it sooner and then he heard the man whisper the code words, they had decided ‘the times have changed’.
Jacob smiled and asked the man, if he needed to go for a cup of coffee, although he could use a stiff glass of whisky possibly. In the shop, they sat across from each other. “I was almost sure, you would be a no show”, Jacob said, “I would understand why”?
“I was very nervous”. The other guy just said quietly. “I looked, you standing there from inside the coffee shop, checking your watch and then got scared that you might leave after both of us being here. Jack sipped his coffee, looking at the young man across from him with a very beautiful face, lips and with the killer blue marble eyes. He himself had stood naked in front of the mirror, after his wife was gone to work, this morning. His head showed more skin than the hair. His face was much heavier and had a darker tinge of white due to many years of excessive drinking. He had breasts which were bigger than the girly size and a belly that would never fit tight now in his pants ever.
