Chris realised that she had made a huge mistake. After being divorced she had teamed up with a man who she now understood to be a rebound. In her need to be part of a couple she ignored his true personality and rushed in… where angels fear to tread.

Now five years into her second marriage, it had all come to her as a shock to her system.

She had always liked to dress well, she could afford to do so from her own income, working in a company near where she lived. She had joined them when she got married and moved to the area. The success of her work life greatly differed from the failure of her married life.

Her husband was a bully, a bigot, a bruiser, a blustering dictator. She had not given any thought to his attitude when they first met. A man who made decisions appealed to her, but now his word was law for everything. She had no say, she had to obey.

Her refuge was work and her support were her closest colleagues. The women she worked with gave her space to enjoy eight hours of a working day. Sadly the next eight hours were miserable, and then eight hours of sleep were often disrupted by her restlessness.

“Chris, can you come shopping with me this Saturday?”

Chris’s best friend was Sophie.

“Of course, what do you need to buy?”

“My sister and I need new outfits for our cousin’s wedding. Well we don’t actually need them but we feel that we deserve something new.”

“I thought that was the bride. Something borrowed, something new, something.. Can’t remember and something blue.”

Sophie laughed.

“I don’t know either but it’s a good excuse for Karen and I to get glamorous. And we need your knowledge.”

Chris looked at Sophie, waiting for more information.

“You know everything about lingerie and stockings and so on, and we want to do all that, not just boring underwear.”

“So your husband is going to benefit as well then!”

“Em, not really, he had decided he doesn’t want to go to the wedding, and anyway….”

Sophie started blushing, something Chris had never seen before.
