Chapter 1

Thomas Anderson was playing football with his friends at the back of his house.

His house backed onto a large ten-foot where garages where.

He and his friends use this area to play football, cricket and any other games they could think of.

All the local kids who lived in this area played in this ten-foot.

As there was no other place to play.

And the nearest park was a few miles away.

His mother always told him to be careful. When they were playing any kind of ball games in this area. As a few of the older neighbours could be a right pain in the ass if anything got broken by the boys.

Thomas was now shooting for goal.

And he really put some power behind the ball.

But Unfortunately, he hit the ball too low and it went flying over his friend’s head and over the garage roofs.

They then heard the sound of smashing glass.

Thomas’s friends looked at him then they quickly disappeared into their own houses leaving Thomas stood in the ten-foot by himself and wondering what the hell he was going to do next.

Thomas must have stood there alone for a couple more minutes.

Just when he decided to make a run for it.

Mr Mortimer came out into the ten-foot holding his football and looking very angry.

Mr Mortimer now said to Thomas.

“Is this you’re fucking ball?”

Thomas was now very frightened.

Mr Mortimer was a large man and had a very bad temper.

Mr Mortimer now grabbed Thomas by his arm and he now dragged him up his path to his own house. He now banged loudly on Thomas’s back door until his mother Elaine opened it looking extremely surprised.

Elaine upon seeing Mr Mortimer holding her son demanded that he let him go.

Mr Mortimer hesitated for a few moments.

But Elaine just glared at him angrily.

Eventually he let Thomas go.

Thomas went running into the house.

Mr Mortimer now explained to Elaine what her son had just done.

Thomas who was in the living room could hear his mother and Mr Mortimer arguing for the next 10 minutes.

Eventually he heard the back door slammed shut.

Elaine now came angrily into the living room to find out if what Mr Mortimer had told her was the truth.

Thomas just nodded his head in answer to her.

Elaine was now very angry with her son.

She had told him again and again to be careful when playing football in the ten-foot.

She now sent him to his room, and she told him.

“That he was not to turn on his TV or to play on any video games.

If she came up to his room and caught him watching TV or playing on his video games.

She would throw them in the bin.

He was just to read a book or do something quietly.

Until she figured out how she was going to sort out this mess.”

She then informed Thomas.

“That his father will probably go ballistic at him when he got home from work.”

Thomas now went up to his room and he was now very worried. His dad had a tendency to overreact.

Thomas and his dad never really got on.

And Thomas tried his best to just keep out of his dad’s way.

Martin Anderson had one of the worst days at work that he could ever remember in a long time.

He was an Insurance Salesman and he had to meet certain targets every day and today he didn’t even close a single sale.

Martin had started to stop off at the pub on his way home and have a few drinks to chill out before he went home, and tonight was no different.

His wife had told him that he was a fool to drink and drive.

But Martin just told her that he could angle it and for her get off his back.

Both Elaine and Thomas heard Martins car pull up in the driveway.

Thomas waited in his room he was now getting very scared.

He knew that he would probably get a hard slap across his face off his dad.

Elaine went to the window and looked out.

She now let out a huge sigh of disappointment, he was pissed again.

She could tell by the way he was staggering out of his car that he had been drinking heavily again on his way home.

She had no idea how she was going to tell him about the incident with Thomas.

Elaine knew that her husband’s reaction would be to go up and give the boy a good hiding.

Elaine herself had often felt the back of her husband’s hand when he was pissed.

Her relationship with her husband was going downhill fast.

But she did not work, and he earned all the money.

If she could just earn some money of her own, she could take her son and leave the ass-hole.

She was well aware that her son often got hit off him for nothing at all.

Especially if her husband had a really bad day at work.

He would usually hit her or her son.

But most of the time it was her son that got the full force of his wrath.

Martin now entered the house.

The first thing he did after taking off his coat was to go into the kitchen and to get a cold beer out of the refrigerator.

She just watched him nervously.

Elaine now asked him.

“Had he had a good day at work?”

Elaine now just waited nervously for his answer.

However, Martin just looked at her like she was stupid.

He then finished his beer in one long pull.

He then got up and started to head to the kitchen to get another beer.

However, he was stopped by a loud banging on the front door.

Martin stopped in his tracks and just looked at Elaine.

He then turned around and headed off towards the front door.
