The Millenium Bartender

I saw him from across the room, his eyes started straight into my soul. How did someone like him see me? No matter where I went that night there he was, staring into my eyes, I could just feel his eyes on me burning a hole through me was perhaps a better word. I went to the ladies room and looked into the mirror, my hair was perfect, my make up was perfect and my little black dress was immaculate and beautiful. I decided that I would speak to him. I stepped out of the room, and scanned the ever increasing crowd of people and I spotted him talking to a group of people, he handed them their drinks an then wandered back behind the bar. I looked to my left and found my husband talking to a group of women, he had no idea where I was as usual. I walked over to the bar and looked down only to feel someone staring at me. It was him, he was there standing in front of me in his pressed neat white oxford button down collar shirt. I swallowed hard before deciding to speak, “could I have a long island ice tea?” He smiled and nodded, one of his black curls brushed across his eye. I watched him make my drink and he turned with a napkin in one hand and my drink in the other. He placed them in front of me and he smiled at me, “anything else” he asked? “Um no, I guess you will be really happy when this night is over.” I said not knowing what else to say. He, smiled again showing his beautiful white smile. “Just like every other New Years Eve, only difference is everyone expects the world to stop at midnight because it’s the Millenium.” I chuckled at him, “are you here very often,” he asked? “No, but I wanted to do something different tonight,” I told him. “This would be different I guess if you haven’t done it before.” I drank most of my drink quickly and asked him for another. He fixed it, sat it in front me and said, “you know sweetie if you keep drinking those I’ll have to carry you home.” I felt my heart quicken, “you could carry me anywhere you would like to,” I had never been so bold. He looked at me seriously and his eyebrow raised. He ran his finger through his black beautiful hair and he had a smirk on his face. “really,” he said, “well I have a room upstairs, that could be home for an hour or so if you need to crash,” he stated very seriously.
