I don’t really know how my life came to this. It’s infinite boring routine; again and again with the same thing. My name is Evelyn James. I am a freshman at the community college here in Denver. Just like everyone else, I am trying to find a new life. I can’t continue this routine anymore. I’ve got to get out…

I awoke that morning just like every morning. I rolled out of bed and half hazardly primped myself for the day. I was late, again, of course. I hurried out my door, yelled good-bye to my roommate, and best friend, Rose. I jumped into my car; if you can even call it that. It was falling apart, but it got me where I needed to go, for now.

I was rushing, in other words speeding, to get to my class. I chose to live on the outskirts of town and was now paying the price for it. I was almost to town when I saw the dreaded flashing red and blue lights behind me. I cringed as I pulled my piece of crap over to the side of the road.

I fumbled through my glove box, searching for the required paperwork to give the officer. As I finally retrieved the needed documents, I turned to address the officer who had already arrived at my window. I hurriedly rolled down my window and then looked up at the most gorgeous blue eyes I’d ever seen. I then realized what I was supposed to be doing.

He leaned down and asked, “License and registration please, Miss.”

I handed him what he asked for, and fumbling over my words I asked, “Is-is there a problem o-officer?” I know this sounds cheesy, but he was the most gorgeous man I had ever laid eyes on. His eyes stared straight through me. He had a confident, wise disposition, and his hands looked rough, but as he took my documents, they slid across my hand so gently.
