The Camp Out PT 2

We all arrive at the lake, and head for our favorite camp site. Right on the lake, some of the b o y s are already busy unloading the gear, and setting up tents. Mrs. Abernathy comments at how organized they all seem to be. “Oh yes ma’mm—every b o y has his assigned duties—if they ain’t riden, there’s lots of other stuff. Some go swimming, fishing, hiking, and we got cards, darts, and some just sit around enjoying the woods”. If ya’ll let Johnny hang out with us this week—tomorrow will be ‘school’ for him”.

“School”?

“Yes sir—we come out here to have fun and get dirty. Most likely I’ll put Dustin on him—they seem to be already attached. He will show him how to handle the bikes, go through the gears, do maintenance, and most importantly, how to fall off. “Fall off”? Exclaims Mrs. Abernathy. I kinda chuckle a bit, “well, yes ma’mm, its inevitable—you gonna ride 4-wheelers, your mostly likely gonna fall off at some point.

Corey walks up to us with an arm load of camp chairs and sets them up for us. “I’ll be back with some ice tea for ya’ll in a jiff”. “Thanx Corey. But—anyway–yes ma’mm, knowing how to fall off is paramount—keeps you from getting hurt. You let go of the gas, and come up off the seat—the bike goes dead, no problems there”. “What about that getting hurt part Matthew—how do you bois handle emergencies”? Asks Mr. Abernathy.

“Every b o y out here is trained in basic first aid. They all know how to treat a spider or snake bite—how to pull you from the water, give CPR or mouth to mouth.
