Mr. Bell Part 1

Another Father’s day at the office. The 2nd time I believe. I was thinking about all the times I never got to celebrate Father’s day and how much it pissed me off when the office pager went off.
“Aja, please come to my office” It was my boss, Mr. Bell.
I got up and walked to the office, still thinking of what a disappointment this day was.
“Aja, I’m surprised you’d even be here on Father’s Day. You’re one of the only people that showed up.” Mr. Bell said, shuffling papers on his desk. He didn’t even look up at me.
“Well sir, I don’t really have anyone to celebrate it with. No brothers or a dad” Geez, the sentence left my mouth with a bitter aftertaste.
“Why are you in the office today?” I wanted to stop talking about me.
Mr. Bell wasn’t old. Let’s get that out the way. He looked like he was in his mid-thirties and didn’t have a speck of gray hair. He was a blonde, with a stylish modern cut, which was always kept. He had no face hair; he was a clean shaven man. He always wore a suit, I don’t think I ever seen him in anything else. Mr. Bell was tall, at least 6’3 and he was slim, but when he took off his suit jacket, you could almost see the muscles ripple underneath his crisp dress shirt. His eyes were a warm green with little flecks of blue and brown. He was beyond handsome, and his voice radiated importance and power. Mr. Bell was the living image of an authority figure. I don’t know why he decided to be a CEO; he could’ve easily been anything else. Maybe it was the money.
“I’m here for the same reasons as you missy,” Mr. Bell sighed, “I have no kids, no wife, or a dad to celebrate with.”
I shuffled uncomfortably; Mr. Bell never really spoke to me unless it was business.
“Well what did you need me for Sir?”
Mr. Bell had a shadow of a smile on his face, “I need to talk to you.”
I felt my gut drop, was I about to get fired?
“Well what is it about?”
Mr. Bell stood up, “I remember when you came here 2 years ago. You were fresh out of college, looking for work. I wasn’t going to hire you, but I did. You are a great accountant and a great assistant. I’ve been watching you for some time now. You are so shy. You never speak to anyone…you seem so alone.”
I felt desperation in myself when he said that.
