Phillip rose out of bed to turn his alarm clock off. He kept it on the other side of the room, as he had a habit to hit the snooze button too many times. After hitting the ‘off’ button, Phillip reached up to rub at his eyes. He didn’t sleep well last night, all in all, probably only getting four hours of sleep. He brought his arms over his head and stretched them back slightly, working out the kinks in his muscles. He rolled his neck at the same time causing a loud crack to echo in the room. He let out a satisfied grunt as he brought his arms back down to his sides.

He walked down the short hallway; the walls were bare except for an unidentified stain left by the past tenants. It wasn’t much of a home, but it was a place he COULD call home. Phillip had never really had a home before. There were plenty of other…’residents’ where he was staying, but he never felt welcome. He was different from them all and they couldn’t understand him.

Phillip walked into the bathroom, the tile cool against his warm feet. He looked down and wiggled his toes causing a smile to appear on his face. He couldn’t stop starring at them, the beautiful feet. They were beautiful. He reached down to stroke his finger from his big toe to the side of his ankle. The skin was so soft and unbelievably warm. He let out a sigh of pleasure, before up righting himself. He caught a glance of himself in the mirror, his dark hair was slightly disheveled and his eyes, which seemed to flash between the colors of soil and seaweed, were rimmed with a deep red. He leaned in closer to the mirror and studied his skin. It looked so healthy. With a satisfied smile he proceeded to the shower, turned on the cold water and stepped in.

At the contact of the water on his skin, his appearance began to change. His skin became rougher, a thick coarse texture that contrasted so much to the skin he had just touched. He felt an uncomfortable tug as the skin on his neck parted to make room for his gills. He reached a hand up, and rubbed against them, the flaps parted a little more by his protruding finger. As he brought his hand back down he looked at it, studying the fingers that were already beginning to web together. His gaze dropped even lower, falling on his feet. He watched as his human feet began to morph into something of his past. The toes webbed together, creating an almost fish like appearance. He tried to wiggle them like earlier but his whole foot arched in response.

Phillip finished his shower and by the end of it gills had fully appeared on his next, his skin became covered in translucent scales and his hands and feet webbed completely. He turned off the shower and stepped out. He dabbed his skin, the towel catching on his coarse skin. He had gone through so many towels since coming here. After drying himself somewhat, Phillip stepped forward in front of the mirror and watched himself morph back into his human form. Once he was completely ‘normal’ he finished drying off and wrapped the towel around his waist.

Phillip finished getting ready for the day. As he did so he couldn’t help but to think about the events to come for his day. He was going to visit the aquarium today, something he hadn’t been brave enough to attempt since moving here. His hands shook slightly and he was a little more light headed than normal. Phillip, finally ready to grab some breakfast before heading out, stopped to look in the mirror once more.
