I was seventeen but they put me in the county jail for driving drunk. I wasn’t even really drunk. I just failed that damn breathalizer test. I was ok to drive. I just got unlucky and crashed that’s all. It was just shit luck. But anyway I was definitely the youngest in there. It freaked me out a little. I started to wonder if any of these fat, bald chicks were going to try and rape me or something. At first I was terrified to know who my cellmate would be. But I was relieved to find that it was a girl only slightly older than me.
“Hey, I’m Jessica. Everyone just calls me Jess.”
She must have been around twenty, really pretty long brown hair and blue eyes.
“This your first time?”, She asked me.
“Yeah.”
“Hey don’t worry Its not prison. You’re not gonna get raped up the ass with a broomstick or anything. As long as you don’t piss anybody off or get in anybody’s way here you’ll be fine.”
Of all the people in there I don’t think I would have felt more comfortable with anybody else but her. She was nice.
I sat with her at dinner. We had what looked like some kind of stew. It could have been a fresh pile of shit and we wouldn’t have known the difference. We talked about alot of things. Mostly we talked about family and friends. I told her about my boyfriend Chris. She said she never had a boyfriend. I couldn’t understand why. She was so gorgeous.
It was almost lights out time. I grabbed a book to read before they shut off the lights. Jess and I climbed into our bunks and said goodnight to eachother. The lights went out before I finished a single page.
