Agent 13: The Promotion

Meep! Meep! Meep!
My alarm went off as it always did at five thirty.
I groggily reached over and pounded on the snooze button, practically breaking the alarm clock.
I threw off my covers and lay there for a few minutes. I was completely naked, I never liked wearing clothes to bed and besides why should I? I live in a tiny apartment by myself and it’s good for you to sleep naked. It lets the skin breathe.
I roll out of bed and walk to the bathroom.
I turn on the shower and wait for the water to warm up while I brush my teeth.
When the water’s warm I hop in the shower and begin washing my long brown hair.
I hum to myself as I scrub my body and shave my legs.
Then I get out of the shower, have some coffee, put on my usual work suit, grab my bag and head out to my only mode of transportation, my motorcycle, an all black custom built Suzuki.
It was worth more than anything I owned, even my apartment.
I slipped on my black helmet and pulled down the visor which was tinted black to hide my identity.
I climbed onto my motorcycle and started her up, the engine was pretty quiet, not super loud like those Harley’s.
I pulled out of my parking spot in the alley and I was off to work.
I live on the outskirts of sunny L.A. but my office is right in downtown.
I work a desk job for an elite division of the F.B.I. It’s top secret and no citizens know about it, were called the Sniper Division.
I mostly just sign stuff that needs to be signed, file reports and occasionally I get to help track down targets.
I’ve been dreaming of the day I could become a real agent since I was sixteen and started interning for the Sniper Division.
They almost didn’t let me intern but my father was one of their best agents so they made an exception.
I’m twenty now and have been waiting for that promotion for a long time.
I drive down an alley and pull up behind one of the nicest clubs in town.
I park in my usual spot next to the dumpster and remove my helmet and slip on my sunglasses.
The bouncer standing at the back door eyes me carefully.
As I get closer he recognizes me and nods then he opens the door for me.
“Thanks doll.” I say as I walk past him into the club.

Inside the club is dark except for the flashing strobe lights and colored lights and all those other lights.
The music is very loud.
This is the part I hate.
I shove through the dancing people, being careful not to let anyone spill their drink on me.
Some drunk guy grabs my arm.
“Hey hotness!” He yells over the music.
I shove him away from me and into the crowd where he lands on some chick.
I walk past the bar.
“Hey Steve.” I say to the bartender.
“Hey Ms. T!” He replies.
I smile at him as I push open the door that says “Employees Only” that’s next to the bar and I walk inside.
The door shuts behind me and the music becomes faint and muted.
The room is the size of a small closet and completely dark.
“T.” I say to the darkness.
“Voice recognition complete.” Says a robotic female voice.
A blue light scans me.
“Visual recognition complete.” Says the robotic voice.
There are a few clicks and whirs and then I feel the floor start to descend.
After a minute there is a ding and the wall in front of me slides open to reveal my office.
People move this way and that. Phones ring.
People talk.
I take off my sunglasses and the light is almost blinding.
I have to squint as I step forward to begin my day.
I walk by some of my co-workers.
“Hello Ms. T.” Says the busty blonde girl as she walks by.
“Slut.” I mutter under my breath as I keep walking.
